World's Goofiest Grin

Joseph now responds in kind to the command "Show us your teeth!"

A Christmas Whirlwind

We had a fantastic Christmas weekend. Lots of gifts and family fun were packed into just a few days. Santa came to our house early this year; delivering a V Smile Baby and a magnetic doodle board on Saturday. On Sunday we made a visit to Grandma and Grandpa Myers' to spend some time with the extended Myers crew. Joseph received some fantastic gifts! An activity table, tickle me Elmo and a butt-kickin' trike. Then it was off to Ray-town to see Grandma and Grandpa Finn on Christmas Eve where a play kitchen and activity rocker were added to the loot. On Christmas day it was back to the falls where we unpacked, relaxed, and attempted to get a Skype account set up and work out our webcam. Now if only we can get the rest of you on board...

KSH Blogged Again

Kudos to me! Boasting aside, it is a pretty neat blog if you are looking to waste some time:

Fun In The Snow (Polaroid Magic)

Daddy got to come home from work early because of the inclement weather, so we had a Family Blast in the snow for the first time (contrary to the looks of concern on Joseph's face)! Thanks to Grandma Myers for the snowsuit... Also, notice the hip "retro effect" obtained by using my awesome Polaroid instant camera.

Here is Joseph patiently waiting for the fish boil to commence... "I really don't care about the specific gravity of fish-water, sir. So excuse me while I growl a bit."

Early Arrival from Santa

Okay, so we just couldn't resist. Neither could we deny any longer that despite our efforts to shield Joseph from the seductive lure of the television, with two tv-addicted parents he was bound to eventually exhibit the telltale symptoms (ie. eyes glazing over at the opening notes to Elmo's World). And so it is... Here is Joseph enjoying his newest possession: a Joseph-sized lounger!

Superman

For Halloween, Joseph wore this adorable Superman costume. No, he didn't go Trick'or'Treat-ing. Instead he clung on to this hanger all evening and had his nose pressed to the glass, practically all night. That, and he was fascinated with the skeleton bride hanging from the door.

He just loved seeing all the kids in costume come for candy, but he cried every time they left. He just wanted to join them so badly!

Toot toot!

Okay, so I am not usually one to toot my own horn, but today Joe and I are going out (w/o baby) to celebrate our 3rd anniversary and I wanted to look cute. Boy am I ever glad to be back to a "normal" shape and size...

Spontaneous Sleepover

We obliged the Schwenzens last Saturday on a last minute invite to sleepover (something the four of us used to do a lot before J and H showed up!) Here are some pictures from Sunday morning.

We Have Been Married for Three Years: A Tribute to Us

It’s been over five years since we first laid eyes on each other, and three since we made it official. So much has happened; sometimes it seems like we’ve been together forever. Sure, there have been times when we could have thrown in the towel, but we have persevered. I love Melissa completely, even when love is hard to see... and I know she feels the same about me. The state of our union is strong.

From the occasional argument to the shared joy of being parents of an amazing child, our unique brand of mutual affection is frustrating, inspiring, confusing, hilarious and, most of all, beautiful. Beautiful because my wife is a very attractive woman. Beautiful because we still think switching first letters (lirst fetters) is funny. Beautiful because we have given each other permanent nicknames which have very strong and strange roots. Beautiful because we sing together regularly. Beautiful because she makes me want to sing to my boy just like my dad sung to me. Beautiful because we both love Autumn in the purest way. Beautiful because I know that every day, no matter what happened the night before, I kiss her goodbye while she is half asleep and she always tells me to drive safely and that she loves me.

Melissa works extremely hard every day to keep a nice home, raise our son, and maintain her career (her knitting skills, by the way, have officially gone from craft to art. I am so proud of her). Lately, I’m afraid, I have been taking these things for granted. I hope she realizes how much I respect and admire who she is and what she does.

Recently the three of us shared an embrace that I will never forget: Joseph in the middle with an arm around each of us, Melissa and I holding on to him, all heads touching. A perfect moment in time. Pure, unconditional love.

I’m very glad we decided to get married.

Door County Round 1

Here are some pictures from our first vacation in DC this summer. Thanks to Uncle John for providing me with some excellent photos.
